Dooriyaan…
This is something I wanted to write from long and now I guess the time is more appropriate as I am away from home for the first time for a long period. That too with so many Sardarjis, a place when a girl would feel like an alien (shooting for the film on “Jaadu” is also done here ;-) ) and with a company of a little(???) intricate creature named Mr. Songepedia-II.
Dooriyaan… Distance… which is not always physical or something which you can measure. Apart from its normal meaning of remoteness, the term is very intangible in nature. You are only that much away from a person or an object as much you want to be or you feel you are.
And it is normally believed that the process of going away is painful to the person who is going away. On contrary to which I personally believe that it is more painful for them whom you leave. Because the one who is going away normally have unclear pictures of future and will step up into a new world, but the ones who stay, continue with their normal routine and will face everyday same circumstances, same situations, same scenarios but without you. So they will miss you more than you will miss them. I have experienced it in case of my sister, friends and relatives. And today when I am away from home I can feel my mother passing through the same phase.
One strange form of distance is when you are away from a person even by sitting next to him/her. This is when the proximity is washed out by duty, insularity, integrity or mere stupidity. Sometimes two lines walk together but still can never meet as they are parallel.
Distance is always relative. You will feel distance for only those who have been nearer to you once. You come in contact with someone. You come closer because you like being in that company (or you like the company because you are near). And when you are so much involved and think that you can not survive without it, suddenly Destiny Aunty ;-) comes into the picture and says, “Time Up”. :-)
Still there are some positives of Dooriyaan… you will realize there is someone who cares enough to run after you when you go away. You realize that a true relation is never long distance, it is always long lasting. You realize that there is no such place as far away.
Still sometimes heart shrieks and says, “ Fanaah ho sabhi Dooriyaan”.:-).
